Join the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival (SFIOFF) and Online Ocean Symposium for a live Google Hangout this Friday, February 12, at 11am Pacific.

Hear from festival crew and filmmakers from around the world as they discuss what inspires them. Learn about the storytelling skills and perseverance it takes to create films about the ocean—films that not only entertain, but that also motivate people to take action. Panelists include:

Ian Hinkle, Director, Reaching Blue: Finding Hope Beneath the Surface

Ian Hinkle is a sailor, media strategist, and documentary filmmaker. His recent documentary credits include Midway (creative consultant), the award-winning feature Big Joy: The Adventures of James Broughton (cinematographer), Long Road North (producer/director), and Reflections: Art for an Oil-Free Coast (co-producer, writer). Ian grew up on the edge of the Salish Sea and lives in British Columbia.

Richard Sidey, Director, Speechless - The Polar Realm

Richard Sidey is an award-winning independent filmmaker and nature photographer whose work has been featured in National Geographic and elsewhere around the world. With a background in visual communication design, Richard is inspired by nature. As an expedition photographer, he has spent more than a decade photographing the polar regions and myriad remote areas of the world. He lives in the picturesque Southern Alps of New Zealand.

Mischa Hedges, Director, Of the Sea

Mischa Hedges is a social entrepreneur and an award-winning documentary filmmaker. His last feature-length documentary was Sustainable Table: What’s on Your Plate? Mischa holds an MBA in Sustainable Enterprise from Dominican University’s Green MBA program, and is the founder and Chief Storyteller at TrimTab Media. When he’s not telling stories, you’ll find him outside trail-running, surfing, or biking. 

 

 

Nadia Tarlow, Director, Ocean Driven

Nadia Tarlow, Director, Ocean Driven

Nadia Tarlow is a painter, photographer, and videographer. She has been featured on NPR and in the San Francisco Examiner, has exhibited at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artists Gallery, and has written for Juxtapoz Magazine. Nadia has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and studied in Taos, New Mexico; at Parsons School of Design in Paris; and at Montserrat College of Art in Massachusetts. She lives in the Bay Area.


Ana Blanco, Executive Director, SFIOFF

Ana Blanco, Executive Director, SFIOFF

Ana Blanco is Executive Director of the SFIOFF. She brings to the festival a passion for the ocean and more than 10 years of experience in executive nonprofit management, including BizWorld.org and the San Francisco Foundation.. Ana also volunteers with Blue Water Foundation and is a board member of Waves for Development.
