Krist Jake (Founder) started the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival in 2003. He also founded Redwood Capital, a service provider to early stage businesses, and co-founded the Denali Foundation, a non-profit organization providing educational programs in Alaska. Krist is a former officer in the United States Navy.
Robert Brockob became a volunteer at the 2006 Festival and, with his wife Diane, started the Youth Program for the 2007 Festival. Former teachers, they look forward to expanding the Youth Program in 2008 as the Education Outreach Coordinators for SFOFF. Bob and Diane have an architectural design business in San Francisco. Both are avid sea kayakers and cyclists.
Joseph E. Illick volunteered as the Festival Director in 2006. He is also a professor emeritus of History at San Francisco State University. Joe is an accomplished author, artist, a former union leader, and an avid open water swimmer—he has several times been Polar Bear Champion (miles logged in the San Francisco Bay in the winter months) at the 950-member Dolphin Club.
Fred Hornbruch joined the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival leadership after attending the 2005 Festival. He has been an engaged entrepreneur since his youth, is a travel expert, an ocean swimmer and kayaker, a former amateur underwater photographer and an all-around ocean lover. He has completed many ultra events, including the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon and the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run. He continues to compete in his “retirement” years.
Ed Ueber is Ocean Superintendent for the National Park Service. Beginning with his submarine service with the U.S. Navy in 1960, Ed's career has been connected to the ocean. He managed the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary from 1989-2004.
Alison Cross came aboard in 2006 as Development Coordinator after finishing her Ph.D. in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington, and currently works in the Community Fisheries Program of the World Wildlife Fund.
